Choosing the Right Water Heater for Your Morton Grove Home

When it comes to selecting a different type of water heater rather than a conventional gas water heater for your home, it’s easier now than it ever was before! Many homes in Morton Grove typically feature gas tank water heaters, but there are so many different options from which you can choose today! Here are some different types of water heater systems so you can make an informed selection of which will be the best solution for your home:

Tankless Water Heater:  A tankless water heater goes directly into your water line. This investment is huge a space saver. While tankless water heaters save you space, keep in mind that they’ll require servicing every 5 years and heat your water regardless of what temperature it is.

Electric Water Heater: These operate just like gas water heaters but they’re powered by electricity instead of gas. Depending on tank size for your home, this option may be a very affordable choice and save you money on your monthly utility bills.

Solar Water Heaters: Much like the way they sound, these systems harness the power of the sun to heat your water.

Tankless Coil and Indirect Water Heaters:  Both of these water heaters go directly into your home’s heating system in order to heat the water.

Heat Pump Water Heaters:  This moves heat from one place to another and generates heat directly for the water.

There are three main factors to take into consideration when selecting which water heater will work the best for your home in Morton Grove:

Size: What size water heater will your home need? Keep in mind, bigger doesn’t always mean better and you could be throwing away money on something you don’t really need. However, a unit that’s too small will also be problematic as you’ll constantly be running out of hot water.  The size of the tank can also be determined by the amount space is allocated for installation.

Energy Efficiency:  You can reduce your monthly utility bills with a new water heater. With energy efficient models, you can heat your water with less energy consumption and save money.

Costs:  The bottom line comes down to money and how much you have budgeted for a new water heater.  Capps Plumbing offers discounts on water heater options.

Signs Your Need To Replace Or Repair Your Water Heater

A water heater lasts typically 8-12 years.  If your water heater is over that 12 year mark, it’s time to replace it before it breaks down.  Water heaters in Morton Grove, Illinois typically come in three options: gas water heaters, electric water heaters, and tankless water heaters.  In addition to the age of your water heater, listed below are some other telltale signs that it may be time to replace your water heater:

  1. When running your water, the water appears rusty instead of clear
  2. The water is muddy or sandy in appearance. This may indicate build up at the bottom of the tank
  3. If you notice a metallic taste or odor in the water when drinking it, this could be a sign that your tank is breaking down and metal flakes are getting into your water.
  4. You’re getting warm water when it’s flowing but not hot water. First, verify that your thermostat is set between 120 and 140 degrees. If it is set properly but you’re still not getting hot water, contact Capps.
  5. You are hearing loud and unusual noises coming from your water heater.
  6. The frequency of times and the space of time between when repairs are done to your water heater indicate that your water heater might be on the verge of breaking down.  Capps Plumbing will always give you the expert advice when it comes to whether it would be more financially sound to repair your water heater or replace the water heater.
  7. If you notice leaks around the bottom of your water heater, this is a clear sign that will require immediate action. It’s usually an indication that your unit needs to be replaced. Even if the leak is small, these cracks can rupture causing massive water damage in your home.  If there is a leak or water pooling around your water heater, don’t wait to call Capps and get the unit replaced as soon as possible to avoid a watery mess and hassle.

Water heater sprung a bad leak and three hours later my new heater was in. Knew the prices and they were fair. Excellent workmanship. Neat, polite, friendly. Installed some extra valves and pointed out coupons I could use on the web site. Plumbers all seem to use a price schedule which is why I did not rate the experience 5 stars. That said, NO service using such a schedule would get 5 stars from me so these guys are about as good as it gets. i would definitely call them again.
